Ikiru (1952)
Akira Kurosawa is most famous for his samurai and period piece films, and those are the the only kind I’ve seen from him until now. With this film, he certainly shows he can do excellent work in other genres too. The story of this film revolves around a man who is told he has only a short time to live. I found it to be a nice, lovely and touching film. Takashi Shimura gives a great performance, and the whole thing is captured gorgeously by Kurosawa’s direction. I didn’t like the final hour or so as much as the rest, I have to say. The ending was beautiful though.
